Millennium Bridge

Approval given for tallest bridge

Certainly will place Sunderland back on the map.

This is the pavilion before the 12th July 2009 revamp of the artwork by Victor Pasmore. This sculpture was created in the late 1960s and opened in 1970 but between then and late 2008 the sculpture was neglected and fell into disrepair.

This video was made on November 20 2000. It shows one of the most incredible days ever witnessed on the River Tyne. The floating crane, The Asian Hercules II carried the bridge from the AMEC yard at Howdon up the River Tyne to its permanent home at Gateshead Quays near the Tyne Bridge.
